Cordelia's Dad
Howdy,
We were just made aware of your blog posting about our first two albums.
We appreciate your kind words.
We would appreciate even more if, rather than posting bootlegs of our first two albums, you could direct people to iTunes or a similar site where they can legitimately download the music. We figure that $10 is a very reasonable price for our creative efforts, and a decent portion of that money comes directly to us.

Peter,
No thanks. I don't use Itunes and its crippled music. If you want me to pay to download your music, then give me downloads without DRM. And don't forget the previews, because I will not buy it unless I know I'll like it.
The world is changing under you. You must change with it, or you will fall off.
You've already got a non-DRM copy - you got it thanks to Lizardson. So put your money where your mouth is and go pay for it. You know how.
Or were you just talking smack?
Ten dollars for his "creative efforts"? Says the drummer.
Reading a lot of the comments on here I'm almost starting to think bands should simply stop releasing albums and just gig. At least that way bands would have the satisfaction of knowing that their music wasn't just being consumed by total assholes.
Funny how nobody's rushing forward to ask if any of the musicians have a paypal account they could donate 10 dollars to as a goodwill gesture. Everyone's quick to demand the musician should do this, do that to ease their passive experience of music consumption. It's entire one-way, no consideration of the person that actually created the artefacts under discussion.
Man, it's quite amazing how fast the mantra of "consumer choice" has bred an entire generation of spoilt children – indignant at the merest hint that they might not be able to get exactly what they want, all the time, without contributing anything to anything.
When you learn to drum as well as Peter does, then you can talk about "creative efforts." That's as stupid as complaining about a traditional band because they don't write their own songs! Peter's excellent work is essential to Cordelia's Dad.
Lizardson, stop posting stuff that's available elsewhere. Like the Watersons, these guys deserve all our cash.
The reason I wrote that post -- "ten dollars for his creative efforts" -- etc., is because I was the GUITARIST and contributing songwriter in this band. I haven't seen a penny from this in 15 years. But Peter -- the drummer -- is upset because he's not getting his $10 per download
signed, Tom King
Quite an amusing and spirited exchange. Yes, the music of C.D. is terrific and yes people should pay for it (the excuses and junk about "the world changing" barely merit a response). But I DO agree about musicians having a paypal account where folks who have already DL'd [rightly or wrongly - mostly wrongly] can donate as a goodwill gesture, and to relieve some of their guilt.
