When The Corries were at the height of their fame many folkies - myself included - looked down on them as too 'commercial.' Now I listen to them and wonder what was wrong with us. For 'Flower Of Scotland' alone they deserve a medal.
Thank you for this reminder of how good they were, and how much we all underrated them.

Used to be, there were artists and bands I liked, until I found out that they were considered "commercial" or "sellouts."

But many years ago I heard of a fiddler who used to stop playing for a few months every now and again, afraid he'd get too good and not be "authentic."

Huh???? Since when does "authentic" have to mean amateurish?

That got me thinking that I should stop worrying about what other people said or thought about the artists I liked.

True, sometimes artists are popular because they produce mass consumption gruel. But sometimes the public DOES have good taste.

Forget labels. If they're good musicians and good songs, and you like them, quit worrying and enjoy!
