Eva Cassidy "Live at Pearl's, Annapolis" 1994
No comments on Jeff, Jim and Amy? So I quit my plan to post a
boot with Jim and Jeff at the Acoustic Cafe.
Instead I like to share a special treat: The only - as far as I know - boot by
the late, great Eva Cassidy. If you haven't heard of her yet - go and listen to her
covers of Sting's "Fields Of Gold", the timeless "Over The Rainbow" or "Autumn Leaves"
and get hooked!!
You're not able to support her with money anymore - but there's a voice from
the past that never shall go silent ...

Nice stuff. I hear people say Eva's career was greatly helped by her passing, that she was good but not quite that amazing, as there are many talented singers languishing in obscurity. But in any case, she's a very pleasant to listen to. Would welcome more!
Well, her full catalog is available via amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url?%5Fencoding=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=music-de&field-artist=Eva%20Cassidy
Even her first recording with "Method Actor" - for just 4 bucks ...
BTW - heard people say Elvis still lives ...
If this blog has taught me anything, it's that major label support and wide recognition do not always equal the absolute best - there's lots of artists you will never hear of who are just as talented. Eva herself is a great example of this in both directions. No one knew who she was when she died. And while she IS exceptional, I don't know if she deserves the overblown hype she gets. People are saying she's one of the best of all time, the creme de la creme. That's simply not the case. There are many fine interpretive singers.
Probably her biggest asset is that she was able to do whatever she wanted, and chose songs that took advantage of her strengths, without having a meddling record company involved. And for that reason she is definitely worth a listen, like so many great artists. You don't have to be the best of all time to be worth someone's time.
thanks for the amazon link, but i prefer to hear a disc first before buying it. got burned too many times before the net came along. 30 second clips don't help that much it turns out.
lizardson's posts send me to amazon quite enough already for sure thing purchases. oh and dont forget its another 3 bucks for shipping every disc so a blind buy would be 7 bucks not 4.
