The Peelers "Banished Misfortune" (UK Folk 1972)

Early '70's hippie UK folk trio who released this album in 1972. Very much in the "tradition" of the genre the group perform assorted tunes new and old using acoustric instruments such as dulcimer, banjo, Tin Whistle, guitar and concertina. Excellent period folkie artwork as well. Enchanting! (Freak Emporium)

folk-rock band's much acclaimed sole album recorded in 1972. A highprised collectable item in it's original vinyl format, coming with special needlework sleeve design, faithfully reproduced here. A timeless collection of songs with a haunting feel created by a plethora of instrumentation including mandolin, dulcimer, concertina, harmonium , etc. (Elegy)

Personnel:
Joe Palmer: guitar, dulcimer, vocal
Tom Madden: guitar, banjo, vocal
Jim Younger: concertina, tin whistle

Surprising no one has commented on this one yet. I think it's some of the best trad folk of it's time.

I got this from another site thinking it was the other Peelers. I think it`s great. Does anyone know anything more about the band or it`s members?

SINGLES

BROKEN DOWN SQUATTER/RAMBLIN' ROBIN (1979, Barleycorn BAC 001)
THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS/SWEET MEMORIES (1982, Masquerade MASQ 1)
JOHN O'DREAMS/FAIR AND TENDER BEAUTY (1983, Afterhours AFT 11)
JOHN O'DREAMS/DICEY REILLY (1983, Priority P7)

The last listed was billed as by "The Peelers featuring Mandy Murphy"

I was not involved with the album or the first single. I produced the other 3 singles and sing co-lead vocals on "Dicey Reilly"

Charles O'Connor (Horslips) plays fiddle on "The Wind In The Willows", and Tommy Keane plays pipes on the 3 A sides produced by me. I also play various things here and there, though mainly bass on "John O'Dreams".

By the way, Roddy's link is for a different band of the same name, although Miranda Mulholland of that band played with Chevron Harrigan and Woods in Canada in 2003.

A girlfriend of mine in the mid-seventies lent me a copy of this L. P., which I correctly, and foolishly, gave back. I have not heard any tracks from that record until today. It brings it all back...
