Evensong (1973)

Subtle lovely acoustic rural, slightly baroque folkpsych record.
This is one of the long forgotten british folky albums, originally released in 1973. This duo's first and only release has been much sought after among the folk/folkrock collectors for years. A perfect mix of smooth folk and typical british folk-rock.
Must for who likes Heron etc...

01. Dodos And Dinosaurs
02. I Was Her Cowboy
03. Store Of Time
04. Gypsy
05. Smallest Man In The World
06. Take Your Son To Church Mother
07. Borderline
08. Firefly
09. Rum Runner
10. Sweetbriar Road

This is a fabulous album - why did they never record another? Smallest Man In The World has got to rank up there as one of the best tracks of all time. Can't believe it's impossible to get hold of and yet still the Company object to you sharing it. But thanks for the signpost! This is my first experience of your site (and the first of VERY many!). Here's a challenge for you - can you find any Elmer Gantry's Velvet Opera?! Many, many thanks, best wishes and good luck with the search!

Is it possible to get a "re-up" on this? The Delerium Records link didn't take me to anywhere active? Thanks, Norm

Hello,
Sorry to bother, but I really like your review about this record and I was wondering if you had this gem. It's a pain to find it, and I've tried everything, in vain. So if ever you have it somewhere, it would please me if you could reupload it... Yours sincerely (sorry for my english but I am french...)

Please wait for the PoppyDisc CD release as the Korean Beatball Music release violates US and Korean Copyright Acts.

I am pleased to let you know that the long wait is finally over. After nearly half a decade the long awaited follow up album from the English folk band, Evensong is nearly here. This new album entitled ‘Farewell Dear Pilgrim’ will be available from March 1st 2012 from www.spirirtrecords.co.uk. This masterpiece is the culmination of over forty years of song writing and musical experience which has resulted in a truly stunning album from the Birmingham duo of Mick Lawson and Tony Hulme.

The official release is as follows:

“In 1972 the album ‘Evensong’ was released on the Philips Phonogram label. In 2010, after rekindled interest, a re-issue on CD was released.

Now for the first time ever, the album and artwork are available to download from Spirit Records

After 40 years, the follow-up album is finally here ‘FAREWELL DEAR PILGRIM’. These latest songs were recorded over the past eighteen months. Whilst working on the last track – ‘Farewell Dear Pilgrim’ Tony tragically passed away. This farewell album is dedicated to Tony and the friends of Evensong

Thank you for your continued support.
Peace and love from everyone at

Spirit Records”

I would like to ask you if it would be possible for you to feature this album release on your website. The original Evensong album will be available for download with the artwork for only £4.99. The new album is available on CD for just £9.99. Both are available from www.spiritrecords.co.uk from March 1st 2012. More information is available at www.spiritrecords.co.uk and you can also follow us on Facebook or Twitter.

Evensong and Spirit Records would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your support with the release of this new project.

Thank you once again.
Yours sincerely

Spirit Records.

The Korean edition is a legitimate issue under license from Poppy Disc. If you can't believe that Mark(or Mr.Yi?), contact Joe Foster of Poppy Disc. Don't do that boys. Poor boys...
