ReplyDeleteIf you are interested in Third Ear Band, you must buy their first three albums, Alchemy, Third Ear Band/Elements and Abélard and Heloïse.
ReplyDeleteThe sound of these three albums is completely unlike anything you will have ever heard. Although Third Ear Band were grouped in the progressive rock and new age camps, they were nothing like either. Rather, they were an utterly unique folk/jazz combo led by oboist Paul Minns, whose free-form stylings were very different from jazz saxophonists. The veriety of rhythms and textures, too, is enough to surprise any listener.
On Abélard and Heloïse the band's sound becomes even more abstract, lacking the rhythm but remaining enchanting.
